Features
This cafe opened in June 2016 in the shell of a gift shop – chosen for its perfect takeaway window – which the owners transformed in just two weeks. Back then it was known as Blackbox Brewers.
It’s been The Toastery since August 2017, when it swapped its cool, Scandi lines for a more retro-leaning aesthetic reminiscent of a neighbourhood milk bar. The commitment to excellent coffee remained, but the team (the same behind Sprolo, Little Matcha Girl and Blacklist Coffee Roasters) introduced a toasted sandwich menu.
There are both basic (thick cheese and ham, and vegemite and cheese) and more complex sandwiches. A pork floss and Kewpie mayo number stays true to Blackbox's love of Asian flavours. It’s all designed to be eaten on the run, or back at your desk.
