The Black Wall
After finishing fashion school and managing huge international streetwear brands – General Pants Co. and Amazon Surf – David Long and Krystal Boyd-Priest brought together their combined fashion prowess to give new life to The Black Wall.
They took over in early 2014, completely transforming the space to stock streetwear and accessories for men and women. They also introduced a big zebra-stripe window decal, which covers the entire front window.
This unmissable display pays hommage to Stripe, a life-sized Zebra ornament that used to be outside the old store.
Inside it’s exposed-brick walls, white wooden fixtures and concrete floors. The store’s resident pooch, Penelope the Puggle and a selection of funky tunes ensure staff and customers are in good spirits.
The store only stocks the best brands Australia and New Zealand have to offer, along with other international labels. Middle-to high-end in price, The Black Wall carries a pretty diverse range of designers that all have their own aesthetic.
Brands such as Valley Eyewear and Stolen Girlfriends Club are among the favourites. As New Zealanders, Long and Boyd-Priest have also stayed true to their roots, stocking more NZ-based brands than any other retailer outside of NZ itself.
