How do you know when you have a popular store? Let’s just say that when people get its logo tattooed on their bodies, and throngs camp outside the doors on a semi-regular basis, you’re doing OK.
Little wonder sneakers store Highs and Lows has mushroomed from its original Mount Lawley store to a bigger premises down the road, plus two additional locations on King Street and in Claremont.
A tight-knit group of eight engineers every aspect of Highs and Lows’ three stores, from graphic design to customer service. As well as its in-house streetwear label, Highs and Lows has done exclusive collaborations with Adidas, Reebok, ASICS Tiger and more, which spark cult-like followings, including the aforementioned campers.
Across the three stores, you’ll find these, plus rare kicks and clothes from labels such as Carharrt WIP, Club 75, and FUTUR Inc, mounted on timber cabinets like installation art.
While the Claremont shop is clean and minimal, stocking contemporary lines, the King Street location is more rustic, with exposed walls and plants and displays of the most high-end stock. The Mount Lawley store is a mix of the two, with polished concrete, Persian rugs and an ex-tensive range of urban and high-end kicks.
