Jess Chisari bought Department from her boss at a fashion agency in 2013. She then freshened it up with younger labels and a cool new look.

With more than decade of experience in fashion, Chisari has a keen eye for what women want. She buys in labels with that elusive cool factor, with new stock coming in almost every week. More evidence of her fashion chops: glamorous flat lays posted regularly on Instagram, and personalised styling advice in-store.

The store itself is a beauty, all dark wood, whitewashed floorboards, and cement-like plastered walls.

There’s sexy bohemian dresses from Stone Cold Fox; Frame denim’s flattering jeans; delicate layered jewellery by Petite Grande; candles from Damselfly; and luxe-hippie dresses and cardigans by Mes Demoiselles. WA label I Love Mr Mittens, with its voluminous, chunky knits, is another fixture. Even fashion girls need to be comfy sometimes.
