Black Plastic stocks all the things you’ve ever wanted, but never knew existed. Just try to pass a melamine plate-pack of Star Wars character portraits without taking it to the counter. Or getting home without a book of insults penned by Shakespeare.

It has clever stuff, too. Everyone needs an insulated wine cooler that looks like a brown paper bag, right? The store is also the go-to for entertaining cards. The back wall, and one whole side of the shop, is dedicated to them. You’ll find yourself trying to remember upcoming birthdays, just so you have an excuse to buy something.

Owner Paul FitzRoy started Black Plastic in 1987 with only $1000 to kickstart his house of oddities. The store is now in its fourth location (the first doubled as his home) and still attracts plenty of curious customers.
