Theo & Co
Chicago and New York have their own styles of pizza, so why can’t Perth? If it did, it would be the kind made by Theo Kalogeracos, founder of Perth pizza institution Little Caesars and owner of Victoria Park’s Theo & Co.
His trademark is a thin, crispy crust and loads of quirky toppings you wouldn’t think belong on a pizza, such smoked oysters or whole-egg mayo. House combos include the Greek Lamb with its garlicky tzatziki and fresh feta (a nod to Theo’s heritage) or the more virtuous Farmers Market, a chia-seed base topped with veggies, yoghurt and parsley. Otherwise there are pastas and salads.
Savvy diners know to save room for dessert pizza. The popular Sticky Fingers is Kalogeracos’s take on the sticky date pudding, topped with chopped dates, white chocolate chunks, caramel and a huge scoop of ice cream. It’s definitely not for the small of appetite.
That Victoria Park has embraced Theo & Co is no surprise: the eatery is staffed by 18 locals and the fit-out pays homage to the building's former life as beloved bicycle shop, Balmoral Cycles. Look closely and you’ll find the stools have pedals and the kitchen’s docket holder is an upcycled bike wheel.
