Part bar, part kitchen and part garden, The Standard lends itself to all manner of social engagement. The only question is where to set up camp.
The soaring warehouse is home to scruffy giant Polaroid posters and plastic-moulded school chairs. The backyard features a fairy-lit wine garden and two rooftop bars. The latter is an excellent choice for warm evenings, with a beverage in hand and the sun setting over the city’s skyline.
The drinks list covers plenty of territory. Wine choices favour the work of smaller producers, including rosés by the glass. The cocktail selection is dominated by classics given a twist, such as the Frankly Yuzu, which is made using local spirits. There's actually a whole section dedicated to different takes on the Negroni.
The share-friendly menu is as suited to bar snacking as it is to lunch and dinner. Standouts have included Korean barbeque chicken accompanied by sweet potato noodles and herb salad, and rich beef short ribs with a rendang glaze. Plus, imaginative salads like a som tam-inspired number with green paw paw and tomato.
