Santa Fe Restaurant and Tequila Lounge
Santa Fe provides South West American and New Mexican cuisine, inspired by the original owners’ backpacking trip through America. There’s no posturing here – the food is made to be scoffed, with meals such as jalapeño poppers, chimichanga and chipotle ribs served up in whopping portions.
The decor is cheery, staying on just the right side of garish. There’s dream catchers, longhorn skulls, catci, and a fairy-light-strewn bar, plus a sprawling mural by local artist, Fieldey. No surprises it’s a popular spot for private functions, with piñatas for hire and a special tapas menu.
Over at the bar, you’ll find towering shelves containing more than 50 kinds of tequila, which can be sampled in tasting flights.
The Walk the Plank, with a shot each of Scorpion, Jose Cuervo, Espolon, Herradura, CaboWabo and Fat Ass, is equal part slush and lethal. If you really have a death wish, try the Dirty Sanchez shooter, a chilli-infused tequila with lime juice and a squirt of the aptly named Death Sauce.
