The Point surpasses the normal expectations for a bar and grill. From the Mediterranean-style décor, to the quiet water views that surround it, the atmosphere is not one normally associated with a tavern.

The sophisticated spot is upstairs from Ku De Ta’s trio (The Deck, West, Ku Dining) in Point Fraser. As you walk in, a display of wine greets you. The extensive collection is almost exclusively Australian (bar champagne and the odd New Zealand bottle), with a large proportion from Western Australia. But if it’s an aperitif or Cucumber Cosmo (the establishment’s signature) you want, head to the oval bar, front and centre.

The menu features hearty options such as Ranger Valley sirloin and market fish with papaya salad. Specials are of-the-moment and in season seafood such as scallops and prawns from regional parts of the west. For desert, the house-made vanilla panna cotta with lemon, honeycomb, and berry sorbet is hard to look past.

The bar menu has some crossover with the dining menu; both offer lamb cutlets with ras-el-hanout; frites with truffle, parmesan and rosemary salt; and natural oysters with nahm jim, ponzu and mignonette dressings.

There are traditional dining arrangements, rounded booths in the thick of it, or lounge chairs and couches for something a little more casual. On the deck, the sunroof is adjustable and makes for the perfect environment to watch the resident pod of dolphins from, or the live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons.
