The Old Crow spans the dining spectrum – from breakfast avo salsa with eggs, to late-night beef-cheek bourguignon on polenta. Add in a mixologist preparing cocktails, and you have one of Perth’s more versatile venues.

Head chef and part owner Chris Aguasa aims for gutsy food to satisfy, with appetisers including jumbo empanadas and spicy chicken wings with ranch dressing. Perfect to soak up a pitcher of Louisiana iced tea, ginger schnapps, or any classic cocktail you care to name.

Mains include sirloin with polenta chips and red wine jus, and ricotta and Parmesan gnocchi that delivers extra crunch from a crispy fried coating. Sweets are limited to two classics: chocolate fondant with vanilla ice-cream and crème brulee with berries.

Beyond cocktails and a range of aperitifs, the wines are sourced mostly from Australia and New Zealand, with some overseas highlights, including Argentinian malbec.

People-watching over breakfast is mandatory in the sun-drenched front courtyard. Breakfasts range from tostones (fried plantains) with cheese and chimichurri, to eggs Benedict with house-smoked salmon.

Like the food, the décor embraces familiar comfort, with quaint features still apparent from the original century-old house.
