Mr Munchies doesn’t sell the most traditional sushi. But to a legion of loyal fans, it’s the best. Katsu chicken with potato salad; katsu pork, bacon and cheese; smoked salmon, cream cheese and black sesame seeds – this is Asian fusion at its most radical.

Sushi purists may turn their noses up (until they try the sashimi), but everyone else will experience something unique and delightful. A limited selection of non-sushi meals is on offer as well, such as bento boxes with teriyaki, karaage and tofu.

If the menu offerings aren’t unique enough, make your own. Pick a base protein; fill out your roll with three stuffings, such as veggies, eggs, avocado, bacon; select a topping then choose a sauce. The Mr Munchies team will take care of assembly.

Service is fast, but this isn’t fast food. Every order is made fresh – you can watch it happen in the open kitchen – and components are prepared from scratch on the premises.

Drinks consist of the usual soft drinks, but Mr Munchies makes a perfect destination for a cheap and cheerful dinner before exploring Beaufort Street’s nightlife. Itadakimasu!
