Double Rainbow is one of the four venues inside The Rechabite (along with Goodwill Club in the basement, The Rechabite Hall on the first floor and Hello Bar on the rooftop). The lively 240-person restaurant serves punchy Korean-inspired dishes that are designed to be shared.
While the cooking might be fast-paced, the kitchen strikes a neat balance between the crowd-pleasing (think prawn wontons, or Korean fried chicken with caviar and yuzu-spiked mayonnaise) and the imaginative: flights of oysters and soju shots, or a duck sausage “McMuffin” with peanut hoisin sauce and onion. Squid is one of the items being cooked on the wood charcoal grill, and comes drizzled in punchy, miso-spiked harissa. Vegetarian, gluten-free and vegan diners are covered by a handful of options, too, such as smoked beetroot with whipped tofu “ricotta”, nashi pear and pecans.
The open kitchen is a key feature of the dimly lit space. Large tables are built for communal dining while lazy Susans tick the boxes for both form and function. The cocktail list spans classic to more creative concoctions, like the Supernova – which marries peanut butter whiskey, cinnamon whiskey, honeycomb and nutmeg, and is served as hot as your mains. There’s also a tight list of wines, bees and non-alc cocktails. Stick around or head up to the rooftop bar for stellar city views.
