Features
Since 1995, family-run smallgoods producer Mondo Doro has gained a loyal following for its award-winning cured and smoked meats. You might have seen its coppa, salami and ham lining the shelves of Farmers Jack’s or Spudshed, or enjoyed them stacked into loaded continental rolls right across Perth. Along with selling wholesale to grocers, butchers, cafes and restaurants statewide, Mondo Doro has its own pared-back kiosk where you can stop in for ready-to-eat smallgoods, coffee, continental rolls, pastries and more.
Mondo Doro prides itself on its locally sourced meats and use of traditional techniques. All the pork is sourced within Western Australia, while some beef comes from the eastern states. Its award-winning cacciatora, chorizo, mortadella, coppa and Christmas leg ham follow long-established recipes that have been tweaked and perfected by two generations over 20 years.
Those meats shine through in Mondo Doro’s continental roll, which is lined with the brand’s own mortadella, ham and salami; cheese; and an antipasto mix of marinaded eggplant, olives and peppers. It all comes snug in a baguette from nearby Everyday Bread. You’ll also find hot coffee and pastries, which might include croissants and chocolate eclairs. And, if you’re looking to create the ultimate sandwich or grazing plate at home, you can line your basket with packets of prosciutto, honey-mustard ham, middle speck bacon and more – all prepared in the warehouse next door.
Brothers John and Nick Ciampini and John Rapanaro are the original trio behind Mondo Doro, which they built up with the help of their children. Their sons Adrian Rapanaro and Danny Ciampini took the reins in 2020 and continue to follow their families’ recipes today.
