Pleased to Meet You
Pleased to Meet You is part of Clint Nolan’s Lavish Habits group, which also includes Alabama Song, La Cholita, Joe’s Juice Joint and Sneaky Tony’s. It’s a welcome addition to Northbridge’s Chinatown enclave. If you can find it, that is.
Look for the number 38 on never-ending Roe Street – a modest entrance in a neighbourhood of bright neon lights. Inside is about casual mingling. The “mess-hall”, divided in two – a bar down one side, and communal tables down the other – features exposed brickwork, a lush planted wall and a ceiling decorated with old shipping pallets.
Inspired by a love of all things Central and South American, the food-truck-style menu offers a few dozen small plates, such as chicken tacos with corn salsa, and watermelon salad with goat’s curd.
A very visible pig on a spit is on offer for those who want more. For dessert there’s s’mores, a Canadian delight of chocolate-mousse smothered marshmallows sandwiched between graham crackers.
At the bar there’s something for everyone. Rum lovers will relish a nip of English Harbour. The beer list ranges from Hazelnut Brown Nectar from American brewers Rogue, to Emu Export for those who want something from home. Wine can be purchased in half-litre portions if a bottle is too much.
