Lot Twenty might be the biggest small bar in Perth. Between its two storeys, sprawling light-dappled beer garden and hotchpotch of chairs and tables, guests have plenty of options.

Drinkers can assemble near the bar, where social bartenders pour from a parochial beer selection. Local winemakers are well represented on the wine list, and cocktails such as a Branca Menta-powered Mint Slice Milkshake and house-made sodas betray a playful streak.

This tongue-in-cheek attitude is mirrored in the large circus-themed mural near the staircase. Painted by local artist Daek William, it immortalises owners Andrew McIntyre, Gary Beadle (both co-owners at Five Bar), Haigh Nicholson and Ben Powell.

The food is as considered as the drinks, from the offer of weekday lunch deals, to a kitchen that stays open longer than many of its peers (from Monday to Saturday, food is served until 11.30pm). The regularly changing menu reads like a comfort-dining best-of. It takes in the likes of spiced chook, burgers and white-bean salad.

An outdoor smoker near the entrance provides smoky beef brisket and chicken wings. Twice a week you’ll spot smooth-talking oyster shucker Jerry Fraser (possibly charming your date). He’s just one of the many characters drawn to this lively Northbridge establishment.
