Jack Rabbit Slim’s
What happens when some bored uni students create a promotions company so they can rent out a nightclub for personal parties?
In this case, scores of top-tier club nights and festivals, a record label that’s now a subsidiary of Warner and Perth’s coolest club. The only thing that’s the same as when directors Luke Whelan, Fraser Johnson and Alex Paioff started out are the cans of Emu Export on offer.
Jack Rabbit Slim’s is named after the Pulp Fiction restaurant and lies in the cavernous Northbridge corner that previously housed the grungy Black Betty’s and EDM club, Parker.
The drawcard of the place is its capacity for awesome gigs, with an eight-by-three-metre stage, a state-of-the-art sound system and the guys’ connections to music big wigs. Oh, and the fact that in bedtime-loving Perth, it’s open until 5am. On any given night you might hear stoner rock or UK grime.
A cutaway room features a ‘50s diner, fitted with booths and retro objects scored at yard sales. Even if you’re not up for clubbing, the salted-caramel alcoholic thick shake and extensive menu of fries is worth dropping in for.
More reasons to be a regular: tequila infused on premises with chilli and strawberry, a comfy upstairs lounge with couches sourced from the guys’ grannies and vintage pinball machines you can play with your loose change.
