Features
If you want your coffee prepared with the sort of meticulous attention to detail normally found in a laboratory, Addison & Steele is the place.
Every aspect of the coffee-making process goes under the microscope here. We’re not just talking about attractive froth on your flat white, served by snappily uniformed baristas, though that’s also part of its charm.
Beans come courtesy of Small Batch Roasting Co. in Melbourne. The grinders – two, imported from Germany – achieve a precisely calculated grind, whether for espresso (with or without milk) or filter coffee. The espresso machine is a Slayer, considered the Ferrari of its kind.
The food backs up the coffee by way of rich pastries and sweet or savoury bagels with cream-cheese spreads. Cooked meals include slow-cooked eggs on sourdough, pulled-pork brioche and house-made beans.
The cafe also hosts monthly tasting nights to showcase the character of particular coffee regions.
