Habitue is all about repeat business. The laid-back, Mediterranean-influenced diner is named after those who regularly frequent a place of pleasure.

Snag a seat in the leafy courtyard decorated with communal tables, colourful cushions and lights dangling from trees. Otherwise, find a spot inside by the roaring fireplace. Regular appearances from local and international pianists, accordionists, double bassists and violinists will add a touch of theatre to the occasion.

A charcoal grill dictates the share-style menu. Chargrilled tiger prawns with smoked oyster cream and crispy saltbush are a good start. Vegetarians are well-catered for – half of the menu is meat-free.

A 500-gram Cape Grim scotch fillet will keep the carnivores smiling. For dessert, there’s a pecan tart finished with rum mascarpone, homemade sorbets and cheeses of the day.

A considered wine list complements the food, with European drops aplenty. The bar is creative, with a gin made from grapes and house-made barrel-ageing spirits muddled into refreshing cocktails.
