When James Legge and David Chitty were running music festivals, they pined for a beer to capture the festival vibe. Something for the punters that didn’t lack personality. In 2016, they started experimenting with pilot batches and grew a loyal following. They eventually secured their own space in 2018, converting a former panel and paint shop into Otherside Brewhouse, an eclectic 150-square-metre brewery serving up easy-drinking beer, casual eats and good times.

At Otherside, you’ll find about a dozen rotating taps on offer. That might include its Festive Ale, a sessional ale that’s big on flavour yet low on alcohol; its Harvest Red Ale, where malt and sweet fruit notes collude; or Anthem IPA, a crowd-favourite West Coast-inspired IPA. Experimental beers showcase Otherside’s depth and creativity, with limited drops like the viscous, coffee-laced Sabbath Stout released in limited supplies.

Simple fare, like cheeseburgers and nachos, are delivered from the venue’s own food truck, while the central, 360-degree bar and picnic bench seating combine for those festival feels. Tall exposed tin ceilings, bright natural light and recycled red brick add a rustic feel to the refurbed factory space. It’s loud, busy and the atmosphere is a heap of fun.
