If you like shakshuka, Secondeli is the place to go. Owners Abdul and Loubna Belhassan bring their Moroccan heritage to the fore at their cafe, with a menu rich in North African flavours.

Abdul, chef and past owner of Fez, fills the all-day menu with many of his own traditional recipes. There’s the shakshuka served with merguez sausages, labne, poached egg and dukkah; and a Berber breakfast with meatballs, tomato ragout and fried egg. Both come with toast, ideal for mopping up the sauce.

Loubna, a pastry chef, bakes all the cakes. They’re mainly made with almond meal, making them a win for gluten-free diners.

With help from third owner Mike Ardon, the couple turned what was a deli for 26 years into a bustling corner cafe. You won’t sit elbow-to-elbow here. They’ve kept it spacious and there are a handful of tables outside. It’s perfect for the locals walking down with their dogs or mums with prams.

The cafe is also a hit with early-risers. It’s one of the few cafes in Perth to serve coffee before 7am. You can get a cup here from 6am. It’s the Dark Horse blend from Five Senses, with a single origin also on offer. A coffee window set between planter boxes services the takeaway set.
