Features
Butter Crumbs is the side-hustle-turned-shopfront we didn’t know we needed. The standout bakery in Mount Lawley started out as a humble market stall back in 2019. There, chef Zie Zillah (Chu Bakery, Island Market) sold simple yet excellent cakes and pies during a break from full-time work.
Following an 18-month pop-up in Inglewood, Butter Crumbs finally found its permanent home on Beaufort Street in 2022. Here, Zillah and business partner Bea King (Rochelle Adonis) create excellent sweet and savoury pastries – from hulking sausage rolls to simple yet flavourful cakes.
On the menu, you’ll find plenty of fan favourites – notably the in-demand Basque cheesecake and elegant lemon meringue cake. There's also an exceptional pie range that might include mushroom, beef rendang, chicken curry, and beef and veg. Plus, vegetarian sandwiches, sausage rolls and a savoury Caprese salad-inspired croissant.
Butter Crumbs prides itself on working with ingredients from local suppliers wherever possible. Carabooda’s Heavenly Strawberries and O’Connor’s Natural Vanilla are onboard, the puff pastry comes from Empire Pastry in Darlington, La Delizia Latticini provides the cheese for sandwiches and croissants, Oohlala Preserves’ tomato chutney and beetroot & horseradish relishes complement the flaky pastries, and there’s coffee by Osborne Park roaster Micrology.
