A great bagel leaves a lasting impression. Yet dedicated bagel shops can be hard to find in Perth. Bagel O’s, a bagel deli that opened in Mt Lawley in late 2022, is one of the game changers.
Bagel O’s is a slick operation with fast, friendly service. And the bagels well and truly live up to the hype. They’re chewy on the outside and soft on the inside, and are stacked fillings including hand-made meatballs and chicken parm. The breakfast-y Bronsalini with local bacon, spring-onion cream cheese, fried egg, hash brown and chilli honey is a crowd favourite, and the house-cured lox sells out often.
The bagels here are like what you’d find in Los Angeles or New York City, and there’s a good reason why. Owner Shahryar Tehrani came up with the concept in 2015 when he was having a coffee with his Mum in Los Angeles. The food truck Yeastie Boys rocked up and showed Tehani how to elevate the simple bagel to star sanga status. That was it. He closed the denim business he’d been running for six years and started making bagels.
Where possible, the team tries to keep things in-house, producing not just the bagels but the pickles, flavoured cream cheese, jam and “everything” seasoning. (The cookies and exceptional homemade glazed doughnuts are well worth your money.)
Coffee is also a large part of the Bagel O’s experience, with beans from Osborne Park roaster Micrology and nitro cold brew on tap.
