Allan Mpora and Tania Tan opened Nasi Lemak Korner in Como in mid-2015, to showcase the cuisine of Tan’s native Malaysia. Almost two years later, the couple expanded to the western suburbs, this spot in Mosman Park.

The business is a family affair with artwork featuring the couple’s children, created by Tan’s cousin, taking centre stage in both restaurants.

Both modern and traditional Malaysian dishes are represented in the menu, which is the same at both restaurants. Street-food classics include beef rendang, laksa, nasi goreng and a selection of curries. Seafood features heavily in the entrées, from lemongrass prawns and sesame fish salad to tuna cutlets and pipis. Nasi lemak and complimentary sambal are always available, but roti is only served on weekends.

Desserts include Malaysian standards such as sago gula melaka (sago pudding with palm-sugar syrup) and pulut inti (rice balls with sweet toppings), and Asian-flavour twists on classics from other cuisines, including green tea tiramisu and durian strudel.

The Nasi Lemak Korner chefs also offer roti classes to the public.
