Oakover Grounds
Features
In 2014, Oakover gave its winery a makeover. The brief from the Yukich family was simple: it had to be an enjoyable space.
Success. Kids and the young at heart are entertained with free paddleboats; wide-open spaces; and fish to feed in the lake. You can also try your luck fishing for trout or barramundi to take home.
Along with wine tasting, there’s also coffee sampling. In 2012, Fiori Coffee moved its operations here from a busy industrial area. Now the roasters enjoy the relaxed pace of the Swan Valley and showcase the roasting process at the cellar door.
There are a few menus here: weekend breakfast, weekend lunch and a pared-down all-dayer for weekdays. It’s simple and approachable food with something to suit most tastes.
There’s also food to share, such as fennel-salted pork crackle; and chicken wings with fiery mayo. More substantial options include an organic beef burger with chips; and shiraz-braised beef croquettes with potato puree.
Then there’s breakfast. Dishes worth a try include roasted field mushroom with parmesan polenta, pine nuts and truffle oil; and bacon-and-egg brioche roll with tomato relish, beetroot and ricotta.
The drinks menu features Oakover wines – of course – and local beers. Sidekick cider, made on site using apples sourced from Bickley, is available on tap.
