In the trade for more than 50 years, butcher Vince Garreffa is now a familiar face and voice across Perth’s food media. While Midland was Mondo’s home from 1979, the Beaufort Street store opened in 1997, where a butcher shop has stood since 1936.
Much more than your standard snag seller, Mondo prides itself on supplying pretty much everything, as well as teaching customers what to do with their chosen cut. Garreffa runs classes from the store on charcuterie, sausage making and even Italian sauces, ensuring you get the most from your meat.
From August to December each year the Mondo Market is a Saturday fixture with organic veggie sellers, oyster shuckers and street-food stalls. It has been running since the early 2000s and is now a part of the community.
When the market is out of season there’s still the draw of roast-meat sandwiches, which are available every day. Get in line for your choice of pork, beef or lamb with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic on sourdough.
