Pyjama-clad locals walking down with their coffee mugs in hand is a sure sign there’s something good on this Inglewood corner. After owning a cafe in Sorrento for 11 years, owners Katey Hateley and Wayne Sheldon wanted to bring something to their local area.

They named the result after their daughter, Finlay. The "& Sons" is a reference to the building’s history. For nearly a century prior, the corner was a shoemaker’s shop. A few old wooden tools are even dotted around the cafe.

There’s an abundance of seating, including outside tables surrounded by a community herb garden constructed from old wooden pallets. The all-day menu is both familiar and novel. Past dishes include bratwurst meatballs served with aioli toast; house-baked tiramisu French toast; and corn and broccoli fritters with orange-tahini yoghurt.

Local roaster Twin Peaks supplies the beans for matching with Bannister Downs milk. A teal-coloured coffee window services the takeaway set, but you’re better off sitting down. That way, you can savour your brew with a cake from Holly Raye’s in Bassendean, or Finlay & Sons’ own kitchen.
