Chalkys Espresso Bar is located in Fremantle’s old Municipal Tramways depot. The arched colonial windows circa 1905 are still there, but they’ve been given a caffeinated, street-art-leaning facelift.

Chalkys serves eggs, toast, fritters et al. for breakfast, and salads and pulled-pork tacos for lunch. There’s a large selection of sweet and savoury fridge fare for those on the run.

The cafe use Dukes beans, courtesy of Perth’s Small Print coffee roasters, which run through a shiny La Marzocco machine. It sources luxury teas from the (very) local loose-leaf merchants, The Seventh Duchess.

The space is a regular haunt for nearby university students, office workers and beachgoers, so it’s a pretty bustling place to be at any hour of the day.
