According to Brian Walsh, chairman of Wine Australia, the Young Gun of Wine competition is “an incubator for emerging talent.” Its rollcall of winners “reads like a who’s who of the contemporary wine scene" and Young Gun of Wine Uncut, its national public tasting roadshow, lets guests sample tomorrow, today.
After a sell-out turn last year, Young Gun of Wine Uncut returns to Perth. The event allows guests to meet some of the country’s most cutting-edge new winemakers and taste their handiwork over an Italian-style lunch.
Established in 2007, the event provides emerging winemakers with a platform to present their wines. But it is also as a forum for discovering emerging trends in the industry.
The Perth event will also feature an intimate 20-person masterclass (additional cost involved) hosted by Il Lido sommelier Dan Wegener. The tasting will focus on Margaret River’s marquee varieties cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay and feature wines from Vasse Felix, Xanadu, Cloudburst and 2016 Young Gun of Wine winner Jo Perry from Dormilona.
Young Gun of Wine Uncut will be held at Il Lido Italian Canteen on Friday December 1 between 1pm and 4pm. Tickets are $70 and include all tastings, a stand-up luncheon and a take-home Riedel glass. Tickets to the masterclass are an additional $50. Tickets are available online
