The long-awaited arrival of Short Order Burger Co in the Perth CBD happened with little fanfare just after New Year.
Wanting an orderly start, owner Simon Kony leaked the opening date to a select few but it didn’t take long for diners to catch on. In what must be a shock to no one apart from Kony, the new store is proving to be popular just three weeks after opening.
“We didn’t realise that we were going to hit the ground running, word got around really quickly,” he says. “I think people were hanging out for something a bit more centralised.”
Lunchtime has proven to be the busiest time, and the initial rush caught the Short Order team by surprise. Work has already begun on improving preparation times for busy CBD workers.
“We understand that people around town don’t have much time for lunch,” says Kony. “We’re trying to make a better burger for people who are in a hurry without compromising on anything.”
Micrology cold-brew coffee will soon be joining Short Order’s drinks offering, with dehydrated fruit added to the mix.
“We’re getting a lot of people coming in after lunch asking for coffee. Many cafes close at 2.30pm,” says Kony.
House made pickles – eggs, onions, chillies – will soon be available for purchase and the team has started making its own chilli and barbeque sauces. Additional sides, burgers and vegetarian menu items are also in development.
In more good news for fans, one-off special menu items – some of which were tested in the Fremantle restaurant last year – are set to make a regular night-time appearance..
“This place is going to give me the opportunity to expand,” says Kony. “I’m going to keep trying to perfect things, and make every burger and every experience a lot better.”
