In anticipation of World Whisky Day on May 19, Glenfiddich has teamed up with boutique Sydney soda maker PS40 to offer three specialist brews specifically for its Experimental Series whisky range. The kicker is there’s only one place in Perth to get it: The Dominion League.
The special will run for one week only, May 19-25. Key to the offering will be Glenfiddich’s new Experimental series, with handcrafted expressions such as the #1 Experiment IPA, which is aged in oak barrels used to brew Indian Pale Ale beer for a distinctive hoppy note. The #2 Experiment, Project XX (pronounced twenty), meanwhile, is a whisky workshopped by 20 of Glenfiddich’s finest whisky experts and specially created by Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich’s master distiller and carries tasting notes like summer fruits and candy floss.
For this special, Glenfiddich ambassador Luke Sanderson reached out to Michael Cheim and Thor Bergquist at PS40 to design drinks that matched the experimental whiskies.
“They’re leaders of the pack in terms of experimentation with soda,” says Sanderson. “I haven’t seen anyone in Australasia take to that side of the beverage world with the bespoke focus they have. They’ve made a soda that works perfectly with these whiskies.”
The Hop + Skip & Jump combines blood orange, coriander stem and vanilla with the Glenfiddich IPA; Call Me By My Name sees grapefruit, gentian and honey complement Project XX; and Smoke on the Water adds lemon and ironbark to the complex notes of Glenfiddich 12.
Each drink will be available exclusively in Perth at Dominion League throughout the week.
Alongside the soda and whisky offerings there will also be Glenfiddich flights giving whisky nerds a chance to sample its #1 and #2 Experiments alongside the Glenfiddich 12 year old, matched with a range of “weird” charcuterie.
