Since opening in August, Kalamunda’s Chatford & Co has been winning over locals and out-of-towners with its polished cooking and cosy charm. With the introduction of weekend dinner trading, expect Gavin Chater and his homey cafe to continue making friends.

From tonight, Chatford & Co will open for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays, so diners have more opportunity to taste the handiwork of the former Rockpool and The Loose Box chef. And just like the cafe’s daytime offering, the dinner menu will be approachable and concise.

“We want to offer dinner that is affordable for families,” says Chater. “If Friday and Saturday nights go well we hope to add a couple more nights.”

As is the case with brunch, Chater plans to regularly change the restaurant menu depending on what’s available from suppliers. The restaurant’s micro-herb supplier, Urban Shamba, starts growing Chater’s order three days before it is delivered to Chatford & Co.

For now, customers can expect dishes such as pork belly with garlic mash and shaved fennel and mussels. And prawns and scallops tossed with tomato, chilli and fettuccini. A curry of the day will also be offered. Those dining with kids will have menu options other than nuggets and chips, such as beef sliders and macaroni and cheese. BYO and free corkage is another tick for affordability.

Once the weather warms up dinner guests will be able to dine in the alfresco area, but for now, seating is all indoors. Reservations for dinner are also available.
