The port city is bringing home the bacon. Or at least it will be when the Esplanade Hotel hosts the inaugural Fremantle Bacon Festival in April.

Plans to serve bacon ice-cream and bacon cocktails have been announced, but the Esplanade’s Abby McDowell says she hopes more festival vendors will deliver unusual creations.

“I’d love to see a bacon donut creation or something completely unexpected like a bacon wine or a bacon lollipop,” she says.

The festival will be held inside the hotel, featuring food stalls, live music, kids’ zones and a cooking competition for both amateurs and professionals.

Further announcements including festival vendors will be made in the lead-up to the event.

The Fremantle Bacon Festival will be held at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle by Rydges (corner of Marine Terrace and Essex Parade, Fremantle) on April 22–23. Tickets are $15 (free entry for kids under 15) and are available online.
