Tim Ho Wan, the Hong Kong dim sum chain whose original restaurant made waves for winning a Michelin star in 2010, is opening its first store in Perth.

The Michelin-starred chain will spearhead stage one of Raine Square’s new dining and entertainment precinct. Other openings include Perth’s only CBD-based cinemas and another Hunter & Barrel.

Although Tim Ho Wan can no longer lay claim to the title of “world’s cheapest Michelin-starred meal” – that honour now belongs to Singapore chicken rice chain Hawker Chan, nee Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle – fans still queue at the distinctive green-hued store for its signature dim sum, in particular its baked pork buns.

A spokesperson for Charter Hall, developers of Raine Square, said in a statement the new-look precinct will double in size from 9000 square metres to 18,000 square metres and bring more seven-day, late-night retail, dining and entertainment to the CBD.

Tim Ho Wan opens at Raine Square in September.
