Clarke’s of North Beach is calling it a day
After almost two decades of trading, Clarke’s of North Beach is serving its final tasting menu this Thursday (June 30). Not only was the restaurant a showcase for owner Stephen Clarke’s deft technical cooking, it was also one of the northern corridor’s few options for special occasion dining, as well as a launchpad for homegrown culinary talent including Chris Malone (ex-Eleven Madison Park in New York and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal in Dubai) and Belinda Barrett, co-head chef of Canberra’s brilliant Bar Rochford. Thanks for the memories, Clarkey.
Free (non-alcoholic) beer
To help keep Dry July teetotallers on track, Perth non-alcoholic beer brand Lightning Minds is offering Broadsheet readers a free four-pack of its pale ale and cementing their names (and month-long no-booze commitment) on a 1300-kilogram piece of Donnybrook stone as part of its Set in Stone campaign. “Giving up alcohol for a month is amazing for your mind and body but sometimes it’s hard to go the distance,” says Lightning Minds founder Michael Payne. “But you can’t break a promise if it’s set in stone, so in a tongue-in-cheek way, I wanted to help people stick to their promises so they can’t back down.” The crew at Lightning Minds is offering a four-pack of beers to the first 20 readers to send it a DM on Instagram.
