It’s been a stacked year for the Perth hospitality scene, with a whole host of hot new bars, restaurants and cafes. If you’re looking for a cheat sheet to navigate the new openings of the year, we’ve got you covered.
Here are the 32 new openings we covered this year.
New cafes and casual diners
• Banh Mi & Chè, Carlisle: a casual spot serving crusty banh mi and sweet bowls of chè.
• Be Free, East Perth: the Subiaco favourite laid down new roots at Perth City Farm.
• Bert’s, City Beach: a beachy all-day diner.
• Cafe Yoka, Floreat: an all-day diner serving soufflé pancakes and Asian-ish breakfasts.
• The Cool Room, Fremantle: the beloved Freo cafe is in new hands and serving Scandi breakfast plates and house-baked treats.
• Corner 33, South Perth: a corner cafe putting Asian twists on diner classics.
• Earl’s, Mount Hawthorn: a lunchtime spot serving serious sangas like hoagies and French dips.
• Gelato Messina, Victoria Park: the beloved east coast gelato chain’s second WA store.
• Lovers Deli and Canteen, White Gum Valley: a nostalgia-driven cafe serving one of Perth’s best schnitzels.
• Omusubi Natchan, various locations: a mobile market stall run by a mother-daughter team, which serves hand-pressed rice balls.
• North 54, Leederville: a banh mi shop led by one of Perth’s most promising young chefs.
• Side Piece Deli, Swanbourne: the newest spot from the Daisies Cottesloe team serves playful takes on pastries in the AM and stacked sandwiches at lunchtime.
• Wang Xiang Noodle, Willetton: a comforting noodle joint serving East Malaysian comfort food.
New bakeries
• Angelwood Pies, Leederville: an inventive pie shop from a chef with Michelin training.
• Pinos, Subiaco: Perth’s first dedicated empanada bakery.
• Smidge Bakery, Leederville: a much-loved bakery has moved into bigger digs and is serving 20 trays of cinnamon scrolls a day.
New restaurants
• Avalon, Claremont: Mediterranean food and live music in a swish restaurant.
• Charim, Northbridge: a Korean spot serving traditional banchan.
• Ginza Nana Alley, CBD: a string of small stalls serving Japanese classics from the Hifumiya team.
• Jujube Dining, Doubleview: a twice-weekly pop-up from chef Glen McCue serving Taiwanese-influenced dishes at Doubleview Bowling Club.
• Kalye Filipino Streats, Northbridge: serving Filipino street food-inspired dishes that look beyond adobo.
• Light Years, CBD: a modern Asian diner from the team behind a string of popular east coast venues.
• Lulu’s Cantina, Subiaco: a neighbouring offshoot of the much-loved Lulu La Delizia.
• Mame, Mount Lawley: a Japanese spot serving obanzai and tofu, which is made tableside from a recipe that’s been passed down through five generations.
• Magnolia BBQ, Victoria Park: a pop-up from chef couple Jacob D’Vauz and Anisha Halik serving flame-licked dishes from the Malay Archipelago.
• Ronnies, Scarborough Beach: a US-style pizza place serving slices made with a 72-hour fermented dough.
• Ten and Sen, Leederville: a spot serving Hokkaido-style ramen.
New bars
• Bar Ole, Iluka: a Spanish tapas joint.
• Deadbeat, CBD: a speakeasy tucked down a CBD laneway.
• The Leadlight, Northbridge: a topnotch pub with a killer beer garden and a menu of classic feeds.
• Lil’s Rooftop, CBD: a rooftop bar featuring weekend DJs and live percussion.
• Mons O’Shea, Fremantle: a proper Irish pub serving Guinness, batch loaf and spice bags.
