When Perth locals heard that the longstanding industrial-chic Gordon Street Garage was closing down last year, they were devastated – but also intrigued. What would fill the cavernous West Perth space? The answer is Brewdog, the controversy-courting Scottish-born craft beer brewery.

Perth venue manager Joel Woolfrey told Broadsheet that the new bar, which opened less than a month ago, is off to a great start and has been drawing in steady crowds.

Brewdog virgins will soon get a taste for the craft label’s creations, with 20 taps pouring US-leaning, hops-forward beers brewed at the brand’s Australian headquarters in Brisbane. The pub is also serving classic cocktails and party favourites like pink hibiscus spritzes and Porn Star Martinis, wines and non-alcoholic options.

“People who come here from overseas that are familiar with the brand are excited to be able to get it locally,” Woolfrey said. “People are excited to have Brewdog in their lives again, and everyone else is excited to give it a try.”

The food menu also packs a punch, with bar snacks like Brewdog’s signature wings –best experienced on bottomless wing Wednesdays – and hearty share feasts designed to match well with the beer.

The open-plan venue offers both indoor and outdoor seating across two bars, a sunny beer garden, an arcade room and a stage set to host bands in the future.

“There’s not too many venues like ours in this part of Perth,” Woolfrey says. “Hopefully we can create a bit of a hub in West Perth and liven up the area, giving the weekend crowds somewhere new to catch up.”
