Mary’s, the nighttime identity of Mary Street Bakery in Highgate, will close after its final service on Thursday March 24.
For those that appreciated Mary’s free-wheeling take on Asian food, you have less than two weeks to get your final taste of cult dishes such as beef tartare with smoked-oyster cream and shichimi togarashi-dusted potato chips, and fried chicken wings injected with kewpie and mentaiko.
According to Paul Aron, one of the owners of Mary Street Bakery, the stress of running two separate businesses on the one premise had taken its toll, in particular, two different kitchen teams having to share one small kitchen.
“It wasn’t an easy decision for us, but at the end of the day, it wasn’t working,” says Aron.
“I think Mary Street [Bakery] will be all the better for it and closure will allow us to focus on our core business and keep pushing the quality of our offering.”
Mary Street Bakery’s daytime operation will continue to operate as usual.
