Momo Planet
It may be the momos that get you through the door at Momo Planet, but the live music and Nepalese starters will have you settling in for a serious session. Start with the chatpate, a surprising pocket punch of textures, thanks to puffed rice, crispy chickpeas, nuts and dried instant noodles. Diners sit at communal tables under colourful prayer flags at the back of the restaurant enjoying momos stuffed with vegetables, chicken or buffalo. Get them steamed, fried or served in a broth (a johl momo).

Dapur Van Java
At Dapur Van Java a delicious aroma of spices comes from the kitchen. There are five types of sambal; Ikan bakar (grilled barramundi); Nasi Campur (rice with shredded chicken, eggs and peanuts); and Iga Baker (grilled ribs). The gado gado is a standout, with egg, tempe and tofu tossed in peanut sauce. The Maggi mi goreng and salted egg chicken is a nostalgic throwback to student days.

Silk Road Uyghur Cuisine
Victoria Park is no stranger to hand-pulled noodles, but Silk Road Uyghur Cuisine is rare: you can have noodles, kebabs and rice all in one place. It reflects the singularity of Ughyur cuisine and its place at the crossroads of Central Asia and the Middle East, where cumin is as plentiful as chilli. The Silk Road Mix Kebab Plate has generous servings of meat (chicken, beef and lamb) served with rice and salad. The laghman (noodles) section of the menu offers hand-pulled noodles with meat and Marjan Laghman, noodles diced up with meat and stir fried vegetables.

SUBSCRIBE NOWTrain to Pocha
Drawing from the traditions of a pojangmacha (an outdoor South Korean street cart) Train to Pocha serves Korean street food and soju drinks late into the night. The budae-jigae stew is mildly spiced and brims with kimchi, spam, cabbage and is topped with a cube of instant noodles. For some comfort from the grill, go for the marinated beef ribs served with melted cheese. There’s a good range of chewy tteok-bok-ki (rice cakes) swimming in a red-orange spicy-sweet sauce, or served with beef brisket. Prepare to queue and sit in the corner or streetside and embrace the spirit of pocha-style eating.
