We all know the feeling. It’s the dead of winter, your doona has become your best friend and your routine is just a bleak rotation of work, commute, sleep, repeat. Thankfully, this special winter festival is here to lure us out of hibernation. Taking place from Friday July 14 to Sunday July 23, Cabin Fever Festival is a glorious celebration of food and wine in WA’s south-west, with more than 50 events from Margaret River to Busselton.
The 2023 edition is bigger than ever before. The line-up – from long-table feasts among the vines to live music and red blending sessions with renowned winemakers – is enough to make you a winter person.
Night of Noir
Dark, velvety reds from around the globe, a throng of wine-lovers dressed in chic black attire (as per the dress code) and a DJ spinning vinyl under the stars: it’s a recipe for a night to remember at Skigh Wine in Yallingup. Sharpen your palate with European pinots and WA-made drops, canapés by local caterers Supper Road will be on hand to snack on between sips. On the bill this year are Sisyphos, Fervor Wine, Woodgate Wines and Skigh Wine.
Friday July 14 at Skigh Wine, 633 Abbeys Farm Road, Yallingup
This year, gift them a dinner to remember with a Broadsheet Gift Card.
SHOP NOWCoastal Collabs – Lagoon x Bib & Tucker
It’s the year of the collab at Cabin Fever, and this pairing certainly won’t disappoint. Chef Scott Bridger (Bib & Tucker) and seafoos connoisseur Ben Jacob (Lagoon) are teaming up to serve snacky seafood, local wines and coastal beats at Lagoon’s lush oceanfront venue in Yallingup.
Friday July 21 at Lagoon, 6 Dawson Drive, Yallingup
Fast Food Fancy – Brendan Pratt and Normal Van
Rob Webster’s Normal Van was one of our favourite new openings of the year. For Cabin Fever, Webster is teaming up with chef Brendan Pratt (Coffee Heads, ex-Vasse Felix), to create the ultimate “fancy” fast food. This powerhouse duo is turning fast food up a notch, serving up slightly more sophisticated (but just as satiating) delicacies like duck nuggets and inventively-prepared offal, washed down with local drops by Trait and Jingalup Wines.
Wednesday July 19 at Normal Van Main Street, 115–117 Bussell Highway, Margaret River
Winter Wine Walk
Is there a greater joy in life than a roving feast? This progressive food and wine adventure moves along Margaret River’s main throng, with guests stopping in for a feed at The River, The Little Farm, El Toro and Normal Van. Under the guidance of locals Kellie Tannock and Jude Lentjes, you’ll learn about the town’s storied culinary history and meet local food and wine personalities.
Saturday July 22, Margaret River
Eagle Bay x Besk – Lagerhaus
Lager and house music – the iconic duo we never knew we needed – collide at this collab between Eagle Bay Brewing Co and Perth’s Besk. An epic line-up of lagers will take over the guest taps at Eagle Bay, while DJ Jxnior spins house beats. For those more inclined towards a vino, Besk is coming to the party with a curated list of local natural wines.
Saturday July 22 at Eagle Bay Brewing Co, 252 Eagle Bay Road, Eagle Bay.
Cabin Fever Festival runs Friday July 14–Sunday July 23. Tickets are available online.
