Many of us have ended a night out with a takeaway burger or greasy midnight kebab. Or we’ve gone to sleep on a stomach full of hot chippies after impromptu work drinks. But you don’t have to settle for shame-eating a grease-trap meal under harsh white lighting. Perth has grown up a lot over the last decade and now offers plenty of excellent options for a feed after 10pm.
Before you order your DiDi home, check out these five spots – including a party-ready Italian joint, a late-night institution in a Chinatown laneway and a basement bar doing pizzas until late.
Hakata Gensuke Chicken Ramen, Northbridge
In Japan, there’s a late-night tradition known as shime (which translates to “close” or “concluding” in English). After a boozy night at the izakaya, weary punters will seek out a carb-heavy meal – like a comforting bowl of ramen – to cap off the night before heading home. One of Perth’s best spots to embrace the tradition is Hakata Gensuke, a prolific ramen chain that’s regularly open until midnight. It’s always a fast feed here, with QR-code ordering and fragrant bowls coming out quicker than you can order your ride home. The tori tan tan men is a crowd favourite – with bouncy noodles, mouth-numbing kuro-shichimi spice powder, and juicy fried chicken to soak up your regrets.

SUBSCRIBE NOWSi Paradiso, Highgate
If you start considering the pizza that’s starting to dry age in a kebab shop window, just jump in a rideshare and head to Si Paradiso. It’s a round-the-clock party spot and a deep dive into the wonders of “nuovo Italo-Australian” pizza. Here, puffy and pliable rounds are covered with combos like pancetta, mushroom and pecorino cream or blue oyster mushrooms, cannellini and pickled fennel. Snacks might be steak tartare on a bed of charred sourdough, or the well-loved crab crespelle (which comes highly recommended by Besk chef Tom Harper). If you want more than a sit-down meal, head to the bar for a boogie afterwards.
Uncle Billy’s, Northbridge
It’s not really a night out in Northbridge without a pit stop at Uncle Billy’s, one of Perth’s most beloved Chinese restaurants. If you’ve got a big group, head inside for a table with a lazy Susan so you can spin for your share of crisp garlic squid, Marmite chicken, Peking duck and xiaolongbao. But on a balmy night, you should grab a spot in the laneway outside, right near the grand entrance to Chinatown. Uncle Billy’s is a crowd-pleaser for the whole crew – with BYO and plenty of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. And it keeps going until 4am.
Alfred’s Pizzeria, Perth
Bright neon signage and a red telephone-box door welcome you into this basement pizzeria and small bar, which sits in an old record store. Grab a seat at the bar and order from the late-night pizza menu. The flavours are familiar, and their obscure names offer plenty of pop-culture nostalgia. There’s the Grease-dedicated Betty Rizzo (with prosciutto, buttered potato and garlic), and the classic Home Alone with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. The retro space blends gingham tablecloths, a cheeky portrait of Madonna as the Virgin Mary and a beautiful old stained-glass window. Meanwhile, the fun cocktails and toe-tapping soundtrack can keep you going until midnight.
Alabama Song, Perth
This honky-tonk bar, (named after the Doors’ 1967 track Alabama Song Whiskey Bar) isn’t just about bourbon and rye whisky – though there are some 130 types if you want a nightcap. If you’re after a feed, its late-night kitchen turns out diner staples like mighty cheeseburgers, crisp-fried chicken wings and dirty fries (Petition chef Jess Roe’s favourite late-night feed). Roll up last-minute to chance a table (it’s open until 2am), or book a booth for you and your mates. The rustic room commits to the Southern American theme, kitted out with moose heads, neon beer signage, framed vintage photos and American dollar bills tacked to the walls.
