The Flying Scotsman, one of the most successful tenants on Beaufort Street, will not reopen after Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.

The popular pub made the announcement earlier today on Facebook.

“During these tough times it seems the landlord does not want us to renew the lease,” said the statement. “We will hold on to our memories of the Scotto forever and what an amazing ride it has been over the last 20 years. To everyone that has supported our venues; The Flying Scotsman, Caboose, Defectors, Velvet Lounge and Grumpies, we want to thank you all for being a part of our family and culture.”

The news was met with plenty of grief from saddened punters, not least because many will be unable to have a goodbye drink at the venue.

Despite the initial sadness, some commenters are hopeful that coronavirus-related legislation may offer the pub – and its fans – a lifeline.

More to come.
