Meat You at Back Bar
The good news: West Leederville’s Back Bar at Hylin is offering $10 burgers every Thursday. The bad news: it’s on you whether to choose between the buttermilk fried chicken, the classic cheeseburger or the mushroom and haloumi burger, all of which come with fries. Whatever your decision, it’s a good idea to get there early. The bar is cosy and fills up quickly. Available every Thursday between 4pm and 10.30pm.


Whisky Business
Until September 1, the postal hall at State Buildings will be transformed into The Dram, a seven-week pop-up celebrating all things whisky. In addition to a deep program of events and masterclasses, a whisky bar will also open serving a rotating selection of whisky plus food from Post. James Connolly, organisor of The Dram and international beverage director for Long Chim, says the program has something for both expert and novice drinkers. "If you’re new to whisky you’ll learn a lot," he says. "If you’re an expert there will be a lot of new releases and rare bottlings that most haven't seen before.”


Catch of the Bay
On Wednesday July 11 and Thursday July 12, The Standard hosts Sultry Seafood Sessions, a feast of Shark Bay seafood supplied from Kailis Bros Leederville. Among the dishes chef Chase Webster will serve guests: soft-shell prawn crackers, sashimi, smoked squid jerky, Singaporean-style chilli coral crab, crisp fried squid, charcoal-roasted king prawns and whole fish steamed in soy, ginger and black bean. Dishes will be matched with Barossa Valley Rieslingfreak wines. Tickets are $85 (plus booking fee) and available online.


Thank God It’s Fries-day
Fries. French fries. Hot chips. Whatever the name, deep-fried potatoes are one of the great foodstuffs of the world. To celebrate International Fries Day on Friday July 13 as well as the current WA black truffle season, TWR at Crown Towers is serving truffle fries. $10 gets you a bowl of fries topped with melted parmesan cheese and Great Southern truffle salt, and garnished with truffle aioli.


Winter High Tea
The Haven Lounge in The Westin Perth has launched a sweet and savoury Winter High Tea featuring crunchy chocolate-caramel tarts, scones with berry jam and vanilla chantilly cream, roast turkey with cranberry, walnut and sage, and smoked salmon with cucumber, dill and caviar. The Signature High Tea is $49 per person with Jing Tea and 5Senses coffee; $59 with sparkling Chandon wine; and $80 with Moet & Chandon.
