What happens when an award-winning Perth architect and a talented barber join forces? Cool, and plenty of it, although for one of the parties involved, the merger involved more give than take.
“It’s literally half my space,” says David Weir, director of David Weir Architects. “I gave up my street views for a pokey office out the back so that the barbershop can have the cool frontage and daylight.”
It’s safe to say talented barber and owner of Young Turks, Kristian Francuski, appreciates both Weir’s selflessness and the award-winning architect’s knack for sharp, clean and practical design. For Francuski, branching out on his own was the obvious thing to do after years of working in some of Perth’s leading barbershops.
“I had some unused space within my studio, and Kristian has always had enough skills to run his own shop,” says Weir. “There’s a good feeling between the two spaces as both the architecture and barbering are, at the same time, creative and personal.”
Weir cites the space’s proximity to Cottesloe Beach as a major influence in its calming, clutter-free aesthetic. The barber offers standard and skin-fade cuts as well as beard grooming. Appointments can be booked online.
