Perth is continuing to lure new boutiques to the local retail scene, with Claremont in particular welcoming the recently opened Jac+Jack store, one from Alice McCall, and now, COS.
A sibling brand to fast-fashion giant H&M, COS (it stands for Collection of Style) focuses on statement pieces and minimalist staples. It’s less driven by trends. Speaking about last month’s opening, the brand’s global creative director, Karin Gustafsson, says a lot was taken into consideration before the Western Australian location was finalised.
“It has taken a little time in Perth as we wanted to make sure we found the correct site,” Gustafsson says. “Our stores will often be found outside of the CBD, and Bayview Terrace [in Claremont] provides us with a shopping area surrounded by heritage buildings. Architecture is something we celebrate and are inspired by as a brand.”
This spacious 435sqm boutique is the fifth to open in Australia and will house the full men’s, women’s and children’s collections.
“The exterior has been designed to preserve original architectural features, with recessed entrance doors and canted bay windows,” says Gustafsson. “The modern interior has been updated with clean lines using natural materials to create a stylish, timeless space.”
COS’s new SS17 collection encompasses an understated style with designs inspired by architecture and accessories that are fashioned for everyday use. Monochrome returns this season, as well as fresh spring accents of steel blue, pale terracotta and sage.
