There are more than 60 acts on this year's huge line-up including a rising American jazz star and a Chet Baker tribute from a member of the Cat Empire.

More than 60 international and Australian jazz artists will be performing at the three-day Perth International Jazz Festival, which kicks off on Friday November 8.

The festival features a mix of free and ticketed gigs, artist talks, artist-run workshops, and more. Expect big-band performances and intimate solo shows, vocalists and instrumentalists, old-school jazz and avant-garde.

The State Theatre is the festival hub and many walking-distance venues – such as The Bird, The Ellington Jazz Club and Downstairs at the Maj – are participating too.

Program highlights include up-and-coming American jazz singer Veronica Swift; and prolific trumpeter, singer and composer Roscoe James Irwin (the Cat Empire) performing a tribute to jazz legend Chet Baker, backed by a 20-piece orchestra.
