Riverside Theatre, PCEC
21 Mounts Bay Road, Perth
Price: $70.30–$151.95
The author of The Handmaid’s Tale – one of the world’s most celebrated writers and thinkers – will discuss her life and career live on stage.

The publication of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale in 1985 and the current, Emmy Award-winning television series have created a sweeping global cultural phenomenon. “Handmaids” have become a symbol of women’s rights, standing up against misogyny and oppression.

Described by the New Yorker as “the prophet of dystopia”, the award-winning Canadian author – who has been published in 35 countries and penned more than 40 books of fiction, poetry and critical essays – has had huge success because she imagines horror scenarios that are anchored in reality.

Hear Atwood’s take on it all during this Australian speaking tour. The conversation will span the breadth of her remarkable career, her diverse range of works and why, in the Booker Award-winning The Testaments, she has returned to her seminal story 34 years later. (It’s a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, set 15 years after).
