Getting a surf in over the weekend may become a lot easier if Urbnsurf opens a site in Perth. The company, which begins construction on one of its stadium-size surf park developments in Melbourne next month, has signed a lease agreement with the City of Melville to develop an Urbnsurf in Tompkins Park, Alfred Cove, by the Swan River.

"A development application is currently being prepared, and is anticipated to be lodged in early-2018," Urbnsurf says on its Perth website. "Once planning approval is received, construction will likely commence in late-2018, with the first waves being ridden at URBNSURF Perth in early 2020."

The development is aimed at surfers of any skill level, and uses a leading wave-generating technology developed in Spain called Wavegarden to pump out 1000 two-metre high waves every hour.

LED lighting will allow visitors to surf day and night, whether you’re on a shortboard, longboard, bodyboard, kneeboard or stand-up paddleboard.

In addition to the 2.1-hectare lagoon and surfing academy, there will be a food and beverage precinct, skate ramps, playgrounds, rock-climbing and mountain-bike pump tracks.
