Hoodburger is by brothers Tom and Matt Shaw, who started grilling and selling burgers outside bowls clubs and nightclubs back in 2016. In 2018, they opened their first permanent store at Northbridge’s Old Shanghai food court, before expanding to Inglewood, Ardross, Mandurah and Duncraig.

The massive, 120-person Duncraig outpost is a nostalgic, warm-hued space that promotes an easygoing, relaxed atmosphere. It’s got terracotta tiling, tagine-like red lights hovering overhead, and frosted mustard glass panels that box in the mezzanine dining area. Much of it honours the legendary design of ’80s and ’90s-era Pizza Huts.

The food offering sticks to the tried and tested. Smashed burger patties, chicken tenders and a smashed pork rib meat patty feature in the core menu of 15 burgers that includes the McDonald’s-inspired Ribwich. The gangly fries are golden and crunchy. Craft beers and nicely priced glasses of wine are available from the bar, as are liquor-spiked milkshakes.
