Pull up a chair and take a seat. Now, this isn’t just any chair; it’s a piece by Fritz Hansen called the Ro Chair. It sits in the window of Mobilia’s new Claremont showroom, a place where honest design is valued and respected, not only with regards to the furniture, but also the building.
Mobilla spent six years at its previous location (also on Stirling Highway) before moving to this space in 2016. The building makes the most of the site’s natural light. There is a pressed-tin ceiling and jarrah floors that complement the modern additions of the Bolon flooring and mesh ceiling detail.
The showroom is a series of open-planned spaces that house everything from pendant lighting to salt and pepper shakers. The store carries pieces from revered design brands such as Kettal, Foscarini and Fritz Hansen. Mobilia is also the first in Australia to display work from Areti Lighting, a French company that hand makes all of its pieces.
The showroom has an attached cafe that sells a range of lower-priced homewares.
