It’s a good thing Perth is heading into a long weekend. With so much happening over the next few days, getting Monday off work is the only fighting change we’ve got of fitting everything in. Here’s Broadsheet’s pick of everything happening this Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

Lessons Second Birthday Party and Capsule Collection Launch

Streetwear boutique Lessons is celebrating its second birthday by launching its limited, in-store-only Essentials capsule collection. The celebrations run from 5.30pm until 8.30pm and Lessons will be pouring free drinks for guests.

The Premiere of Australian-Italian feature film The Space Between

From box-office record-breakers, to restored classics, this year’s Lavazza Italian Film Festival program is packed. One of the festival’s (many) highlights is the Friday-night premiere of The Space Between. A joint Australian-Italian co-production, the film tells the story of chef Marco and designer Olivia, two Australians who find and discover themselves in Italy’s Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. A Q&A with writer-director Ruth Borgobello follows the Friday night screening.

WA Beer and Beef Festival

No prizes for guessing what the focus is at this three-day event, then. Held at Elizabeth Quay, this festival is a celebration of all things beefy with protein-enriched food trucks and restaurants in charge of the eats. To drink, a line-up of 16 breweries should ensure options galore.

Special Long Weekend Bahn Mis at Le Vietnam

CBD banh mi stronghold Le Vietnam is celebrating the long weekend by offering five special rolls on Saturday. The rolls include spicy tuna; buffalo chicken; black-pepper shredded beef; the El Porko Loco (spicy pulled pork); and a vegan number packing guacamole and vegan bacon crackles. Mention you’re a Broadsheet reader and you can have any banh mi at mates rates ($7).

The Mantle’s Second Birthday

Everyone’s favourite Fremantle warehouse-turned-food-and-drink emporium - and home to Alter Ego, Don Tapa, Short Order Burger Company and Magna Pizza - turns two this weekend. To mark the occasion The Mantle is hosting a special Soul Purpose Sunday Beats session with DJs Charlie Bucket, John Safari, Jim Peas and Tea King playing hip-hop, Afro-beat, funk and soul.

Taste the new Chicho Gelato and Sue Lewis Chocolatier Dessert Collaboration

Expect big things when two of the city’s biggest dessert names join forces. In the case of the first Chicho and Sue Lewis team-up, the result is the sfera di cioccolato (chocolate ball): a gold-dusted chocolate sphere with a vanilla-bean gelato and candied-chestnut core, mounted on a brownie bed and finished with hot salted caramel. A limited number of desserts will be available on the Sunday and Monday at Chicho’s Northbridge gelataria, and if social media response is anything to go by, demand will be through the roof.

Lot 20 Turns Two

For its second birthday this Swiss army knife of a venue is hosting “a festival of Lot 20”. From Jerry Fraser shucking and selling oysters at a buck apiece from midday, to cameos by Lot 20’s directors behind the bar through the day, expect plenty of fun and bonhomie. Tickets are free but bookings are encouraged.

Round Two of Bivouac and Comida Do Sul’s Soul Food Project

Bivouac and Brazilian food truck Comida Do Sul are once again teaming up to celebrate the long weekend in Latino style. For your $45 buy-in you’ll get six dishes, free bar snacks all day, punch-bowl specials and good tunes. Tickets to Sunday’s Soul Food Project V2 are still available online.

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival The Art of Fashion Closing Night

That spike in pictures of runways and Jennifer Hawkins in your social media streams? All the #telstraperthfashionfestival’s doing. The city’s annual fashion love-in winds up on Sunday with The Art of Fashion at the Art Gallery of WA. Featuring the state’s progressive designers, millinery by Reny Kestel, and flowers by Rebecca Grace of Natural Art Flowers, this ticketed event is a fitting end to this year’s festivities.

Dutch Trading Co presents Beers from Modus Operandi

A little bit of Mona Vale comes to Vic Park this Sunday as specialist beer bar Dutch Trading Co presents beers from award-winning boutique Sydney brewery, Modus Operandi. Throw in live music between 3pm and 6pm and you’re talking a top-notch Sunday session for beer fans.
